Nu Artist Spotlight: Tonyela Arphul |
|

I had the pleasure of seeing Tonyela perform in person at Sankofa, an eclectic entertainment venue nestled in the historic Deep Ellum arts district in Dallas, TX. I was blown away. She was refreshing... different. She commanded the stage and demanded her point. She was witty, spiritual, diverse. She was what many poets are not- real to the point of conviction. The crowd, including I, listened intently, holding our breaths and hung on to the every word.
Tonyela Arphul was born in and raised in Dallas, Tx. She lived in Arizona for seven years while studying Theatre Arts and Business Administration at the University of Arizona. She began performing and acting at the age of 6 and also discovered a love for poetry at 13. Tonyela’s passion for poetry and performing arts has inspired many people, especially with the launch of The Green Beat Magazine. She continues to maintain a balance between the arts and business by being an extraordinary poet/performer and business woman as CEO of The Green Beat Magazine and account executive at InVictus Solutions. Her hobbies include basketball, dancing, cooking, designing webpages, traveling, and watching movies. Her poet name MasterPiece stems from the idea that all artists strive to achieve and put forth their best work possible. It is a metaphor for a successful artist. She continues to travel to Phoenix, Tucson, St. Louis, and Dallas to perform spoken word. Her album Twisted Arrangement will be released in 2010. I talked to God today He defined love for me. He said that love is when you sacrifice Not just compromise Everything you would normally do in life For something that fills happiness in your eyes You practice the act of love. |

I tried… To avoid it, knowing he’d suck the juices Out of me like a melon But instead, I committed the crime Like a felon Guilty as charged, But the feeling never felt so good His voice was like Chico DeBarge Serenading me while my insides were marinating I succumbed to a temptation so valuable |
